Trade missions
The Annual Organic Trade Mission to The USA takes place in March to coincide with visiting Natural Products Expo West in Anaheim. The U.S is the largest organic market for organic products, with total organic sales in the U.S setting a new record of USD55.1 billion in 2019. This is the market to visit for all things organic!
We then base ourselves in San Francisco and the itinerary includes meeting with some very inspirational and passionate leaders in the organic industry. They are always happy to share their knowledge and insights with us on key trends, growth and challenges in the industry. Highlights include spending a day hosted by Randy (VP, Northern California, Reno and Boise Region-Whole Foods Market). The day includes a presentation and Q & A, DC visit, Store walk through, lunch and meeting with buyers. Randy is an extremely passionate guy and his enthusiasm for his business is infectious!
Mark, Jessica and Levi are always very generous with the time they give us and knowledge they share with us about the amazing Good Earth Natural Food stores and the delicious organic lunch is always a highlight!

We have been lucky to visit two businesses that are organic and are also involved in the Marin Carbon Project, Straus Family Creamery and Stemple Creek Ranch.
In wine Country we have visited vineyards and had tastings and tours at Robert Sinskey, Frog’s Leap, Benziger, Hamel Wines and Jackson Family Wines.

2021 is looking decidedly different, due to a pandemic and border closures. Organic and wellness products have boomed during the pandemic and there has been large growth in online sales and curb side pickup. We will work with some of our US colleagues on virtual briefings and trade events during 2021.
Other retailers/cooperatives we love to visit include Rainbow Grocery, The Market on Market, Berkeley Bowl and Bi-Rite (Sam is a real inspiration and an innovator. He is also the Founder of 18 reasons, a non-profit subsidized cooking and nutrition school benefiting low-income communities throughout the Bay Area).
We have visited numerous farms, including Coke Farm, Tara Firma Farms, Full Belly Farm and Capay Organic. Earl and Susan always make us more than welcome, when we visit Earl’s Organic Produce at The San Francisco Wholesale market.

An addition in 2020 was goodeggs organic delivery service and an overnight stay in Santa Cruz, where we shared a lovely organic dinner at Bantam with our friends and colleagues from CCOF- Kelly, Shawna and Sarah.
The 2020 Organic Trade Mission to Europe (Denmark, Malmo and France) and the UK in October 2020 was cancelled.

More recently, I have been working with Meluka Australia on the strategy to get listed in bricks and mortar retail in The USA. From completing submissions and documentation required during the category review for Whole Foods Market (Northern California region) to being informed by the Senior Grocery buyer that they were moving forward and listing two of Meluka Australia’s products to getting on shelf can be an 11-12 month timeframe. Meluka’s Organic Raw Native honey and Organic Raw Native Honey infused with Tea Tree will be on shelves from June, 2021.
